SNOWDON FIDDLE FESTIVAL

Calling all fiddlers and fiddle music enthusiasts! The tiny, picturesque village of Nantperis at the foot of Snowdon is the place to be on 25th June 2005. Following its huge success last year, the Snowdon Fiddle Festival returns to Nantperis with an action-packed day of fiddling frenzy.

The evening concert in the ancient church of St Peris presents JOE SCURFIELD, founder member of the Old Rope String Band, fiddler extraordinaire and master of many styles including bluegrass, old-time, Irish and Swedish fiddling. Also a fine and extrovert clog dancer, magician and juggler. Miss his solo act at your peril! He is complemented by the powerful and haunting music of SILD (an Estonian word meaning bridge), a unique Welsh-Estonian acoustic duo comprising Estonian fiddler/singer/bowed harper Sille Ilves and Welsh guitarist/bouzouki player Martin Leamon. Drawing upon the traditional songs and tunes of Estonia and Wales, their debut CD ‘Priodi’ was enthusiastically hailed by Radio 3’s Verity Sharp as ‘lovely, lovely music’.

Add to this a short set from The Promoters (fiddlers Cass Meurig and Idris Morris Jones of Pigyn Clust and guitarist Nial Cain), possibly the best-kept secret on the North Wales folk scene, and local fiddle club Clwb Ffidil yr Wyddfa, and you have a true feast for the fiddle connoisseur.

During the day there will be fiddle and crwth workshops both for beginners and experienced players as well as an Estonian tunes workshop for instrumentalists of any kind. Enjoy an all-day steaming folk session in the welcome of the Vaynol Arms and bring your poorly fiddle for a free consultation with Fiddle Doctor Nial Cain! Parents can relax as the day also includes a climbing trip for kids, storytelling sessions with Catherine Aran as well as clog dancing workshops.

Don’t miss it! For more information and tickets contact 01286 871042 or nialcain@tinyworld.co.uk
